Māori computer gamers keen on real world contact

A Māori video game developer is hoping to inspire other indigenous gamers with an appearance at the largest gaming conference in Australasia.
4Phase creative director Morgana Watson has been invited to participate in an indigenous panel at Pax Aus in Melbourne in October.
She says her own entry into the industry came through attending a Māori tech wananga in 2018 – and nothing beats getting off the screen and meeting people face to face.
“So if we’ve got fans and followers who are over in Australia who are just as nerdy as we are and going to PAX then it’s a chance to meet in person we all know kanohi ki te kanohi is the way so we’re super excited,” Ms Watson says.
4Phase is raising money to create a Māori futurism adventure game for the console market in which colonisation never happened.
