Kelvin Davis Minister of the Broken Pipeline
Children’s and Corrections Minister Kelvin Davis says he wants to break the pipeline between state care and prison.
Research released by the Royal Commission on Abuse in State Care a third of the more than 30,000 children and youth in state care between 1950 and 1999 went on to serve a prison sentence.
Mr Davis says the evidence of a pipeline is undeniable.
“That’s why I say over the decades the state has ruined the lives of children and then blamed them for their actions as adults and they’ve ended up breaking the law and going to prison. That’s why being both the Minister for Children, I want to change that system, and being the Minister for Corrections I want to break that pipeline and be the minister of the broken pipeline,” he says.
