Wakatu escapes worst of Nelson flooding

The chair of the Nelson’s Wakatu Incorporation says its horticulture and viticulture operations seem to have largely escaped damage from the past week’s flooding.
Paul Morgan says the movement is limited because of damage to roads, but reports from his team indicate the biggest dangers are from some of the huge slips around the region.
“Native logs and the like that come down with these water flows, if you’re in the wrong place with your farming operation they just go through it like a train. We’re fortunate with the water in that we’ve has a small amount of damage on the farms. On the land itself, vineyards, orchards and the like, we’ve been fortunate to gain, just small slips. No flooding in our factories,” he says.
Marae around the region has teams out helping those in need.
