Wakatu boss keen on RSE review

Wakatu Incorporation chair Paul Morgan says the Government needs to review the Registered Seasonal Employer scheme in light of revelations about poor work conditions and accommodation on a weekend television programme.
Whakatu will employ about 100 RSE workers from Tonga, Samoa and Kiribati this year in its horticulture and seafood operations.
Mr Morgan says it’s critical the scheme is well managed and providers of seasonal workers are certified subject to audit.
“We do need to look at it. We can’t have people coming to New Zealand, not being looked after well and certainly not being paid. the workers we have here, they’re phenomenal people and great workers and they’re important for our business,” he says.
