Agrisea gets crown loan for high tech group
The Government is investing in a project to create the world’s first commercial seaweed-based nano cellulose manufacturing plant.
Māori-owned AgriSea New Zealand recently won a Hi-Tech Award for its partnership with crown research institute Scion to develop nano cellulose, which can be used in bio-composites, cosmetics, wound care and tissue engineering.
Regional Economic Development Minister Stuart Nash says the $750,000 loan from the Government’s Regional Strategic Partnership Fund will help the Paeroa-based firm expand and diversify its current plant, which turns native seaweed into biostimulants for horticulture and agriculture.
