Rangatahi focus for Waipareira local board candidate

A candidate for the local body elections says her work with Te Whānau o Waipareira Trust is behind her decision to stand.
Jacqui Harema is seeking seats on the Henderson-Massey Local Board and the Portage Licensing Trust.
She wants to see greater community control of council funding decisions, as well as a greater commitment to rangatahi.
Being Māori is very important to her, but she is also a born and bred Westie.
“My experience is around what is it that’s happening for families, whether they be Māori, Pacific, pakeha, what is it going to be that is going to make them thrive in their local communities so I’m a grandmother, I’m a mother that takes kids to sports so all those experiences are broader than just the colour of my skin and where I come from,” Ms Harema says.
She says too many rangatahi are falling between the cracks in West Auckland.
