Leahy picked to run Ruapehu iwi

Ruapehu-based iwi Ngāti Rangi has appointed Helen Leahy as its new pou ārahi.
Ms Leahy has spent the past seven years as chief executive of Te Putahitanga, the South Island Whanau Ora commissioning agency, and has also worked as a senior ministerial and policy advisor and as chief of staff for the Māori Party.
Ngāti Rangi chair Whetu Moata’ane says she brings a unique skill set to the iwi organisation and the wider community that will help in the next phase of implementing Rukutia te Mana, the Ngāti Rangi settlement.
Ms Leahy says she will be guided by the iwi’s audacious goal: kia mura ai te ora o Ngāti Rangi ki tua o te 1000 tau: that Ngāti Rangi continues to vibrantly exist in 1000 years.
She says her greatest responsibility is as a māmā and a nana of Ngāti Rangi uri.
