Back to school message for Taitokerau truants


Tai Tokerau schools have teamed up with the Ministry of Education to run a let’s go to school campaign.
Schools have been given a social media kit containing graphics and messaging in both te reo Māori and English that can be used on newsletters, school websites and social media.
Northland has one of the highest chronic absence rates in the country over the past decade, and principals say Covid has made it worse.
Oruaiti School principal Diane Bates says parent struggling to get their kids to school should come and talk to teachers.
She says sometimes it’s just about breaking a cycle, and schools will work with whānau to get tamariki back into the routine of attending.
