Te Whānau o Waipareira Executive runs for local council
Te Whānau o Waipareira proudly announce one of their top executives, Jacqui Harema, as a candidate in this year’s local body election launching her campaign this Friday August 12, 7:30 AM at the Henderson RSA.
Te Whānau o Waipareira Chair, Ray Hall, says Jacqui is the right choice.
“It was never a case of why Jacqui was going to put herself forward, it was always when is she going to throw her name in the hat. Waipareira was created out of the very community it supports, Jacqui reflects that and she has our full support. It’s time this part of West Auckland had the right representation and Jacqui Harema is it”.
Jacqui is currently the Director of Whānau Ora at Waipareira and she has selected to run for the Henderson-Massey electorate and the Portage Licensing Trust.
“We need to see more people on these two boards who reflect the community we come from, grass-roots, born and bred out west who are invested in developing our local community for generations to come. The Henderson-Massey area is a community needing good advocacy and leadership and more transparency on where funding goes”.
Of Māori and Samoan heritage, Jacqui was born and bred in West Auckland spending over 25 years working in and for the Henderson-Massey community. Jacqui is actively involved in a professional and personal level with local sporting and cultural organisations, alongside being the Chair of Te Pae Herenga o Tāmaki.
“This part of Tāmaki Makaurau is seriously under-represented. We are a melting pot of cultural diversity and interests. With a young population we need to make our local space an area where families want to spend time. I am a doer who will work hard for this community, with the community, in the community and not just sit behind a desk”.
Te Whānau o Waipareira Chief Executive John Tamihere endorses Jacqui’s nomination, confident she is the ideal elected member.
“Jacqui knows the lay of the land, she grew up here, she raised her children here and now her moko. She’s relatable, she’s dedicated, she worked tirelessly on the frontline during COVID and through her experience here she knows what Henderson-Massey needs. It’s time for the west to experience the positive, long-term impact Jacqui can and will have. She is worth you taking the time to have your say in this year’s local election to Vote Jacqui Harema”.
Jacqui is in a long-term relationship with four children and two grandchildren. Last year she took on the challenge of doing Fighting Chance on Māori Television, committing to a demanding training schedule to prepare for her first mixed martial arts fight. Not only did Jacqui dedicate to the early starts and grueling sessions, she also won her match.
Jacqui has some powerful policies for Henderson-Massey which she will reveal in the coming weeks.
