Internet sales guide Takitimu strategy

Takitimu Seafoods is looking at internet sales to the domestic market to drive its recovery and future sustainability.
Chair Ngahiwi Tomoana says the business is meeting its financial targets after a dramatic rescue effort earlier in the year.
More than half the 72 staff were laid off, but all found jobs either within other parts of the Ngāti Kahungunu organisation or with its business partners.
He says the tribe was not willing to give up on its tupuna’s vision of being involved in all parts of the fisheries sector, and a review of the business by outside advisors confirmed the strength of the Takitimu brand.
“Our most successful delivery model is through the internet and we have huge market share in online sales of fresh fish so we need to accelerate that but there’s a hold on that because we’ve got to make sure we have supply,” Mr Tomoana says.
Close relationships with other iwi and fishing companies will be critical to its future prospects.
