Shane White from Hoani Waititi Marae Trust, says many of the so-called 501s come back to Aotearoa with all the wrong kinds of connections.
“Connections in terms of guns and drugs and gangs and maybe not the social responsibilities of whanau and shared responsibility in New Zealand so I am worried people come over here with nothing to lose and no real commitment or connection to things Maori so we are seeing some quite ruthless behaviour,” he says.
Shane White says a methamphetamine action plan is needed – and Māori community organisations must be a critical part of its development.
