Boxing diet pushes Daniels up rankings
Boxer Lani Daniels says strapping on the gloves is a great way to control her weight.
Daniels has climbed from fifth to third in the World Boxing Association women’s light heavyweight rankings with her win last month at Lake Karapiro against amateur champion Tinta Smith.
The Covid pandemic meant few opportunities to fight after her defeat in in a world title fight against Brazilian-born New Zealander Geovana Peres in 2019, so that meant extra training to get back into the swing of the ring.
“The whole purpose for jumping back into it was about my weight because I started to get a bit complacent and eating more than training so I rang my coach, he’s based in New Lynn, John ‘the rebel’ Conway, and I literally camped down there for the duration,” Daniels says.
She doesn’t want to lose momentum and is ready to fight again
