Luxon rules out National abortion reset

National Party leader Christopher Luxon has almost ruled out any revision of abortion laws under a National-led Government.
One of his MPs, Simon O’Connor, posted “Today is a good day” after the US Supreme Court overturned the Roe versus Wade decision recognising women have a constitutional right to privacy over health decisions including abortion.
The Tamaki MP and former trainee priest deleted the Facebook post after Mr Luxon said it was causing distress.
Mr Luxon told Radio Waatea host Dale Husband the issues were extensively debated before parliament passed the 2019 law decriminalising abortion.
“Within both the Labour Party and the National Party there are individuals that hold pro-life or pro-choice positions personally, but what you are seeing very clearly is that in the case of the National Party for sure is that we are not up for relitigating, revisiting those laws given that they have been settled in the last parliament,” he says.
