Language target no accident

Accident Compensation Associate Minister Willie Jackson says he found it truly uplifting to attend an ACC safety awards ceremony last night and find speaker after speaker giving a mihi.
He says most of the speakers – and the audience – were pakeha.
“It was encouraging because I am the minister in charge of increasing language speakers by 2040 and that’s how you do it, we have all our people, so many speakers at the Lion King, and then you go to a place where there are no speakers but all these pakeha people making a huge effort,” he says.
Mr Jackson says to attend the ACC function and the premiere of The Lion King Te Reo on the same night was a sign of changing times.
