Māori health leader Hayden Wano says bowing out as head of Taranaki Māori health provider Tui Ora will give him more time for surfing and whānau – but he’s not retiring.
He will continue to chair the Mental Health Commission, but he’s not lining up for another job in the reformed health sector.
“I’m keen on perhaps doing a little bit of contract work, clearly some governance roles, so I’m not using the retirement word, I’m just changing direction, and no, I’m got going into any … spoiler alert,” Mr Wano says.
He says Matariki just seemed a good time for a change.
