Raw talent sought for Māori arts’ institute
The New Zealand Māori Arts & Crafts Institute is looking for students who are passionate about learning and preserving the arts of their ancestors.
Applications are open now for the 2022 intake for its wood carving, weaving and pounamu, bone & stone carving schools.
General manager Eraia Kiel says the Rotorua-based institute has a proud history of nurturing and developing the next generation of Māori in traditional arts and crafts, dating back to its founding in 1926 under the guidance of Sir Āpirana Ngata.
Applicants must be of Māori descent, 18 years or older and need to demonstrate their ability in Māori art and/or design.
Successful applicants are offered a full scholarship to cover all costs and help with expenses during their studies.
