Jackson up for broadcasting challenge
New Broadcasting Minister Willie Jackson says he’s now in a position where he can fully coordinate the work he has been doing on a Māori media strategy with the overall broadcasting reforms.
His priority is following through on the work done by his predecessor Kris Faafoi to create a new public media entity from Radio New Zealand and TVNZ, which has been signed off by cabinet.
“Obviously it’s a big opportunity for Māori but it’s a big opportunity for the whole country really in terms of getting a model that suits the country, suits Māori, suits Pasifika, suits Asians who are not watching traditional vehicles, and a lot of New Zealanders have been side-lined by the broadcasters, whose stories are not being told,” Mr Jackson says.
