Tiriti central to family violence prevention

A new framework supporting safe responses to family violence has spelt out what’s expected of specialists and general workforces working in this area.
Te Aorerekura was launched yesterday but the Minister for Prevention of Family Violence and Sexual Violence, Marama Davidson.
She says tīkanga Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations are integral elements, with tangata whenua identified as being critical for leadership roles.
“There is for example an entire section in the framework which is about making sure organisations and workforces uphold te Tiriti and then it runs through a range of examples of what that might mean for an organisation,” Ms Davidson says.
A kaupapa Māori initiative will be presented to Cabinet for sign off before being launched in the next few months.
