Hui tackles tāne mental health
Tane Māori are meeting at Manurewa Marae to share kōrero on dealing with mental distress.
The Aotearoa NZ Tāne Ora Bros Group hui brings together rōpū from around the country.
Chris Henare from the Muriwhenua Daddy’s Club has been running wānanga and mental health programs for tāne in the far north.
He says the pandemic combined with rising living costs has put tremendous pressure on men.
“If we spend a lot of time with our young men teaching them good values about being a good dad, being a good husband, that is a pathway I want to be on in the short time I am here. For me it’s about trying to create a good healing space and a god support space,” he says.
The hui ends tomorrow.
