Symposium looks at tikanga-led governance

A trust set up as part of the Māori Fisheries Settlement to promote education, training and research wants to bring on a new generation of tikanga-led and future-focused leaders.
Te Pūtea Whakatupu Trust executive director Te Puoho Katene says it has found a growing need to improve the skills of those sitting around the board tables of iwi and Māori organisations.
That’s why it’s organising the first National Māori in Governance Summit, which will be held online on June 16.
Speakers include Supreme Court Justice Sir Joe Williams on the future of treaty partnerships, Arama Kukutai from US-based agritec start-up Plenty Unlimited on managing risk, and Ātihau-Whanganui Incorporation chair Mavis Mullins.
“We are really looking forward to seeing the ngākau of the kōrero that comes out from these amazing speakers and sharing it with the community who are able to take it and mould it in their own journey,” Mr Katene says.
More more than 600 people have already registered their interest in attending the online conference.
