Whakataukī for Pink Shirt Day waiata

Pink Shirt Day tomorrow has its own waiata.
The day, which stemmed from Canadian students challenging homophobia in their school, has become an international anti-bullying campaign.
The song Iarere Aio or Positive Vibrations was composed by Pere Wihongi and features Mohi Allen, a Māori engagement specialist for the Mental Health Foundation.
Allen says it uses references to the Whare Tapa Whā Māori health model and traditional whakataukī.
“He paku whakamaharatanga. It’s a bit of a reminder for our rangatahi, for our whānau to be true to who they are, their identity, and to be proud of who they are.
To stand up and just be really proud of their own identity”, he says.
