EV lease scheme a lottery says Willis

National’s finance spokesperson, Nicola Willis has given the thumbs down to a new leased scheme to put low-income whānau into electric vehicles.
She says the $20 million social leasing scheme which is part of the Government’s Te Hau Mārohi ki Anamata Emissions Reduction Plan is still light on detail.
She says it’s a waste of taxpayer money.
“You’d have more chance of winning Instant Kiwi than getting in that trial. Only 2500 people will take part. We’ve got no idea what is the income level that counts as low income, how much will the grant be, or what kind of cars would be eligible. It’s the kind of thing I could have designed on the back of an envelope or in a whiteboard session at an away day,” Ms Willis says.
