Variety looking Up for education

Private tertiary and vocational education provider Up Education is keen to get more representation from the Māori and Pacific communities.
It new research Shifting the Dial report prepared with the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research says up to 66,000 learners in Aotearoa are falling through the gaps in the education system, with Māori, Pacific and disabled students the most affected.
Chief executive Mark Rushworth says it’s costing the country billions in lost potential.
He says the solution is a wider range of options and a system that reflects learners, including Māori and Pasifika.
“Through speaking with learners, teachers, policymakers, iwi, community leaders, the commonality we found was one size does not serve everyone well in the education sector and it certainly doesn’t serve well under-served learners,” he says.
