Māori scare fundraiser bad taste
Waiariki MP Rawiri Waititi says ACT’s fundraising off the Māori Party’s poll results is racist.
ACT leader David Seymour this week spammed supporters about the latest poll which showed the Māori Party could hold the balance of power in 2023.
He warned the only way to get a centre-right National ACT Government would be to keep the Māori Party out.
Mr Waititi says Mr Seymour is worse than former leader Don Brash because he has Maori whakapapa yet he is trying to silence the only unapologetically Māori voice in Parliament.
“He doesn’t have the I would say honour of going back to your marae and to your hapū and your whānau and getting your arse kicked when you’re playing up. People say ‘I’m Māori, I’m proud of my whakakapa.’ If you’re proud of your whakapapa you need to be accountable to it and he’s not,” he says.
Mr Waititi says Ngāti Rehia needs to reign in its mokopuna and give him some lessons about honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
