Long term approach needed to fix family violence
The Minister for the Prevention of Family and Sexual Violence says the kauri can’t be healed on its own, and the whole forest needs to be healed.
That’s the approach Marama Davidson recommends for dealing with social problems such as justice reform, removing inequities in the child protection system, and in her own portfolio.
The Green Party co-leader says it’s something fellow Māori ministers and other Government MPs understand, but it also needs long-term support from public sector leaders and from across parliament.
“I keep getting attacked by the Simeon Brown ignoramus approaches that come down on me because we are supporting gang women to live good lives and lead lives that are free of violence. If they keep doing that, they are not part of the solution, they do not understand the need for holistic solutions,” Ms Davidson says.
