Local approach tested for health reforms

Health Minister Andrew Little has revealed the first areas to trial a locality approach to improving health.
The nine communities are Ōtara/Papatoetoe, Hauraki, Eastern Bay of Plenty, Taupō/Tūrangi, Wairoa, Whanganui, Horowhenua, Porirua and West Coast.
He says it’s a place-based approach to improving the health of populations, as well as a mechanism for organising health and social services to meet the needs identified by whānau, community and mana whenua.
The locality strategy includes a partnership with mana whenua, support for locally led solutions that take a holistic approach to wellbeing, and an attempt to join up care across communities and improve integration with different layers of the health system.
