Omicron hiccup in cancer diagnosis

The Omicron outbreak is being blamed for a drop in the number of Māori diagnosed for cancer.
Diana Sarfati, the chief executive of the Cancer Control Agency Te Aho o Te Kahu, says as a consequence the agency has moved from bimonthly to monthly monitoring of the cancer system so it can identify gaps and offer greater support to cancer services.
There were 16 percent fewer registrations for Māori in January and 17 percent fewer in February 2022 compared with the same months in 2021.
Professor Sarfati says anyone who notices unusual or concerning symptoms should contact their GP.
