Surgeries resume as Omicron wave subsides
Counties Manukau Health is starting to restore regular services after battening down for the Omicron wave.
Chief Medical officer Andrew Connolly says case numbers are down, and there are fewer staff away sick.
There is still significant pressure with a lot of Covid in the community, but services have resumed at the Manukau Super-clinic.
“Much higher numbers of people getting their surgery now. We’re certainly nowhere near back to normal but it’s going in the right direction, so I see it as we’ve put the grass seeds down and now we are seeing the shoots of the new lawn coming up,” Dr Connolly says.
He says because of its proximity to the airport South Auckland is likely to be one of the first places to see new influenza strains, so the DHB is encouraging people to get their flu jabs, which this year are free for Māori and Pasifika over 55.
