Download AudioGeorge Bradfield is back home in Heretaunga after cycling more than 3000 kilometres from Te Rerenga Wairua to Awarua-Bluff to raise money for the Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre he runs with partner Hinewehi Mohi.
He says he and riding companions Ray and David Stark took the long way round – the sign at the lighthouse says it’s only 1400 kilometres.
He saw some stunning scenery and met some stunning people as he tried to fill the hole in the centre’s funding caused by Covid.
“When the chips were down I would think about the kids and it just spirred me on and it was fantastic,” Mr Bradfield says.
The ride raised $11,000 in donations on the GiveaLittle site, and it also spurred someone to make a $30,000 donation directly to the centre.
