Māori business seeking certainty

The chair of the Whāriki Māori businesses network says the business is looking for certainty after two years of pandemic disruption.
Heta Hudson says to a large extent government has listened to business and responded with wage subsidies and resurgence payments such as the recent Activate Tāmaki Makaurau programme.
That pūtea has kept the lights on.
“What people are really looking for is some certainty about what it looks like going forward so they can start to plan. It’s really hard to plan when you are just waiting for the next two weeks of the announcement, telling your staff yep, we might need you or we might not need you,” Mr Hudson says.
Covid had been particularly hard on hospitality and tourism related businesses, where there’s not much left in the tank.
