Te Arataura chair steps down

Linda Te Aho is stepping down as chair of Te Arataura, the executive board for Te Whakakitenga o Waikato, but will remain as a member.
During her 18 months in the role, she helped spearhead the organisation’s response to COVID-19, went through a board of inquiry process on the extraction of water from the Waikato River, and drew on her legal expertise to support Waikato Tainui’s responses to the Government’s reform programme.
She says the board successfully advocated for the establishment of Māori wards.
It also embraced opportunities in housing, hauora and pushed for its own approach to caring for vulnerable tamariki and mokopuna.
She acknowledges the support and guidance of Kīngi Tūheitia and says it’s been a privilege to represent Kiingitanga values.
The Kaahui Ariki representative on Te Arataura, Ngira Simmonds, is heading the process of picking a new chair.,
