News organisations have a new source for guidance on how they should include Māori and treaty issues in their organisations and reporting.
Te Tiriti Framework for News Media was developed by Kupu Taea: Media & te Tiriti Project, a research group which has studied how mass and Māori-controlled news media report Māori news and te Tiriti for more than a decade.
The framework was commissioned by New Zealand on Air Irirangi te Motu for media organisations applying to their Public Interest Journalism Fund.
They say it’s a starting point for news producers to develop their own te Tiriti strategy in ways that suit their contexts.
