Share the wealth Māori way
A Māori banker is keen to bring a Māori perspective to a popular online share trading platform.
Tahana Tippett-Tapsell, who’s part of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise’s Māori investment team, has been put on Sharesie’s future director’s programme.
He’s been a fan of the platform since it started, as it opens the door for whānau who may never have invested in shares.
Mr Tippett-Tapsell says Māori may have a different view of wealth than just accumulating money or assets.
“If something happened tomorrow where we needed to give a koha to our whānau for let’s say education or to improve their health and we are able to give that koha without taking a big impact on our personal circumstance, that’s what I think wealth is. If you have that freedom to spend more time with your whānau, these are the things I think is wealthy from my own whānau experience,” he says.
