Hauora coalition loses founding CEO
One of the most influential Māori in primary health is moving on.
Simon Royal is stepping down as chief executive of the National Hauora Coalition, the rōpū he’s been with since it emerged in 2009 as a 14-member Māori primary health organisation.
The following year it switched from an incorporated society to a company after willing a contract to deliver the Better Sooner More Convenient Whānau Ora business case for primary care.
Coalition board chair Dame Paula Rebstock says under Mr Royal’s leadership it developed the sixth biggest PHO network and largest Māori PHO network in Aotearoa.
Mr Royal also played a key role in the Wai 2575 Health Services and Outcomes Kaupapa Inquiry, as a named Treaty claimant and primary care industry expert witness.
