Slimmed down competition for livestream Polyfest
Auckland’s Polyfest is back, but with reduced numbers and a virtual stage.
The Auckland secondary schools performing arts festival was cut short in 2019 because of the Christchurch mosque shootings, cancelled in 2020 because of Covid and went ahead last year after a month-long postponement
Director Seiuli Terri Leo-Mauu says this year’s performances will be livestreamed from the Manukau Sports Bowl.
Each rōpū will be expected to turn up in time in their kākahu, and there will be no interaction between school groups.
Despite just 60 teams competing, down from a high of 185, it’s been tough to organise.
“Every day we have been pivoting our plans to make it work for our rangatahi and the groups, for those who still want to take to the stage. There will be some who miss out, and hopefully, those who are in their final year, if we can provide an opportunity for them to comeback as alumni next year, we will put that opportunity for them,” Ms Leo-Mauu says
The livestream is available from tomorrow until Saturday on the ASB Polyfest website.
