Sexual violence plan stuck in bureacracy
It’s please explain day for Oranga Tamariki officials today about reports the agency hasn’t met with iwi to develop promised new services to address sexual violence against tamariki.
The Minister for Children, Kelvin Davis, says when money is allocated for services he expects it to be used.
“This is all part of identifying the issues that have been ongoing at Oranga Tamariki for years now and sorting them out so it’s good this has come to light. As I say to officials, fess up and fix it. Let’s just get on and do what we’re meant to do,” he says.
Mr Davis says it’s important there be consultation on new services, rather than iwi saying the government is telling them how to do things.
