Kāinga Ora embraces OSM for Rotorua builds
Kāinga Ora is using off-site manufacturing to fast track the development of 37 new homes in Rotorua.
Central region manager Hinemoa Awatere says the Ranolf Street/Malfroy Road homes should be delivered in July.
She says the state house developer is keen to embrace prefabrication, which reduces production waste and noise problems for neighbours.
“We already have in train 250 other houses like this planned for Rotorua alone let alone the wider Bay of Plenty where we have thousands of homes in planning and in development and we will work alongside mana whenua closely to make sure there are design elements, there are whakapapa elements, there’s naming conventions that work alongside mana whenua,” Ms Awatere says.
About a third of Kainga Ora tenants in the region are Māori.
