Toothless supermarket report has nothing for Māori

A Māori economist says the Commerce Commission’s report on supermarkets wasn’t strong enough to help whānau at the check-out.
Brett Reihana says the commission talked tough in its initial report and then backed off all those positions.
That has disappointed many people, including Māori keen to invest in the sector if conditions changed to allow real competition.
“It’s toothless or they’re toothless and what they’ve come out with really picks at the outside, it doesn’t make that much change and for those struggling or on the breadline, there isn’t much sunshine and hope for them in this review,” Mr Reihana says.
He says there are some good recommendations in the report, but they won’t lead to any rapid change.
