Rush for grocery basics not needed
Meanwhile, former All Black turned supermarket operator Eric Rush says there is no need for panic buying on the back of news from Ukraine and Covid-related supply chain problems.
Mr Rush, who owns Kaikohe’s New World, says up to 40 per cent of workers at Foodstuff’s Auckland distribution centres have been off work because of the pandemic.
He’s been told to order less than half the usual number of pallets to ease pressure on the warehouses.
That’s meant some empty shelves but basic items are available.
Eric Rush says every day his workers are abused by customers for having to wear masks and not being able to get everything they want.
