Winiata lands wānanga top job
The country’s largest Māori tertiary education provider has confirmed Nepia Winiata of Ngāti Raukawa as its chief executive.
Te Wānanga o Aotearoa chair Vanessa Eparaima says he has been acting chief executive for almost a year, and was deputy chief executive for five years.
She says while several other high calibre candidates applied, Mr Winiata’s experience, his considered and decisive leadership through Covid-19 disruptions and his deep understanding and passion for the wānanga ensured he was the successful candidate.
Te Wānanga o Aotearoa has more than 20,000 full-time tauira and 1500 kaimahi across 80 sites.
