Turuki braces for Omicron wave

South Auckland Māori health provider Turuki is already supporting 200 whānau self-isolating because of Omicron, and it expects numbers to grow fast.
Clinical Director Dr Lily Fraser says the majority are coping well at home.
She says while it’s important to make sure whānau have enough kai and access to medical help when they need it, the biggest challenges may be social.
“The social disruption, the necessity to stay home and not be able to leave the house, the ability to access things they need and earn income, all those things are definitely going to be affected,” Dr Fraser says
Turuki is also making contingency plans to fill in for staff who may need to isolate during the course of the surge.
There were 1947 new cases of Covid-19 reported today, bringing the total number of active cases to 10,412.
