Livestream gives poets international stage
Melbourne and Tāmaki Makaurau mash-up this weekend in a spoken word event bringing together some of the cities’ most exciting young indigenous poets.
Connecting Worlds with Words will livestream performances from Fed Square in Melbourne, Bunjil Place in Casey on Melbourne’s eastern fringe and the Aotea Centre.
Manaia Tuwhare-Hoani, who will share the Herald Theatre stage with Sheldon Rua, Takunda Muzondowa and poetry slam champion Eric Soakai, she says she’s excited to share her work with an international audience.
The 19 year-old, who’s the great-granddaughter of the late Hone Tuwhare, believe there’s a growing appetite for indigenous storytelling.
“Tangata whenua and Ngāi Māori, we do have an incredible capacity for creativity. We also have an incredible capacity to hold so much mana and so much ihi”, she says.
Connecting Worlds with Words is on the Auckland Live Facebook page from 7 to 9 pm tomorrow.
