No staff for Waikaremoana Covid clinic
Associate Health Minister Peeni Henare says lack of staff and fatigue are starting to affect Covid vaccination efforts.
The Waikaremoana Taraipara has warned its community the impact of Omicron and low staff numbers at Wairoa and Tāneatua clinics means it is unsure when the next clinic will be at the remote community.
Mr Henare says while the Government has pledged more money to accelerate Māori vaccinations, there are constraints.
“There’s a challenge right across the country – lack of staff, fatigued staff – and we’re going to have to manage that as best we can, but our regions have done well to come together. We can’t look at one clinic in isolation. Let’s look at our entire response to it and I think places like the eastern Bay of Plenty have done a decent job,” he says.
