Contracts free Black Ferns for World Cup prep

Women’s rugby trailblazer Farah Palmer says new contracts for the Black Ferns have been a long time coming.
NZ Rugby has put 29 Black Ferns players on new contracts with increased retainers along with assembly fees and other benefits.
Dr Farah Palmer, who is now a member of the New Zealand Rugby board as well as chair of Māori Rugby and NZR board member, says it means they can put aside day jobs and focus on preparing for the World Cup in New Zealand later this year.
“So hopefully having full-time contracts will give them the time and the energy to commit to doing what they have to do off the field to make sure they’re the best they can be on the field,” she says.
