Appeal lodged on Watercare Waikato take

Waikato-Tainui is appealing a consent for Watercare to increase its take from the Waikato River by up to 150 million litres a day.

Te Arataura chair Linda Te Aho says while last months’ High Court ruling offered some concessions, the iwi remains concerned with the undermining effect on te mana o te awa and the mana whakahaere of Waikato-Tainui and its hapū and marae along the river.

She says the tupuna river should not be used to fix decades of failed infrastructure investment.
