Greens postive on Hoki Whenua Mai reaction

Greens co-leader Marama Davidson says there’s been a positive reaction to the call by the party’s Te Mātāwaka caucus for a new approach to treaty settlements.
There is particular interest in proposals for a Hoki Whenua Mai fund to help mana whenua buyback raupatu land, and a registry for private landowners to give mana whenua first right of refusal should they sell.
“Pākehā and tauiwi who have land are basically saying ‘let’s get the register up, we are keen for the first right to refusal register, for the crown to buy that land at a reasonable rate, not an over-inflated, exploitative market rate because a lot of people are realising the unjust intergenerational land ownership injustice that has happened and they want to be part of the solution,” Ms Davidson says.
