Wakatū refreshes team for food business
There’s changes at the top at Nelson-based Wakatū Incorporation’s food and beverage subsdiary Kono as it tried to work through the challenges of operating in a pandemic.
Former Price Waterhouse Coopers partner Andy Wotton has been appointed chief executive.
Wakatū chair Paul Morgan says Mr Wotton has previously supported Wakatū and Kono’s senior leadership as an executive coach.
His experience across a range of industries is the right fit for what is an extremely complex business at a time when the cost of growing and producing quality food and getting it to customers is surging.
“There’s a lot of challenges in businesses and particularly primary farming businesses because we are a very large farmer and we are subject to the climate situation and it has been a very variable spring summer this year,” Mr Morgan says.
Kono has also taken on a new board member, former World of Wearable Art chief executive, Meg Matthews from Ngāi Tahu, who also chairs the Cawthron Institute and Nelson Regional Development Agency.
