Rising costs put extra stress on whānau

A Māori economic commentator says Māori agencies and iwi need to find new ways to support whānau, individuals and the elderly in difficult Covid times.
Financial advisor Brook Taurua Grant says the rising cost of living is creating widespread stress and hardship.
He says in tough times, people can become disconnected from the networks that support them.
“It looks like interest rates will continue to go up, Covid is going to be around for a while so these pressures are going to be around for a while so we need to think of different solutions to support our people until we can generate jobs etc” Mr Grant says.
He says while iwi are invested across all sectors of the economy, it’s also important to get rangatahi engaged and participating.
