You’ve got less than a week to go to get your name on a petition to make Aotearoa New Zealand the country’s official name.

Organiser Danny Tahau Jobe from Ngāti Tūwharetoa and Ngāi Tūhoe says it’s a chance to recognise all of the country’s history.

It will also signal Aotearoa New Zealand’s place as a Pacific nation and honour the spirit of the Treaty of Waitangi.

“Adding Aotearoa with New Zealand would just add mana to the brand that is New Zealand but also it says here is this place in the Pacific, a Pacific nation that has a distinct culture and identity, and I include Pākehā mā in that because we live in this country together, we have to live in this country together,” Mr Jobe says.

The petition closes next Tuesday, February 8. https://www.maoriparty.org.nz/nz_to_aotearoa
