Tamaki prison stay creates Man Up opportunity
Destiny leader Brian Tamaki’s nine-day stay in Mount Eden prison could have inspired a new programme for his church.
During his incarceration for breaching bail conditions by speaking at an anti-vaccine mandate rally, Tamaki’s supporters set up camp in the streets around the prison.
His wife Hannah Tamaki told Radio Waatea talkback host Merepeka Raukawa-Tait they saw people being released at any time of the day or night with no money or support.
She says while the Justice Ministry won’t allow Destiny’s Man Up programme into prisons, it could work outside them.
“We’ve got a whole lot of plans to maybe help these people who come out of prison. Maybe we might have a van that sets up out there and just be there for phone calls, for a kai, for clothing, so we saw a little gap that needs to be filled and I think we could do that,” Ms Tamaki says.
While Brian Tamaki’s new bail conditions prohibit him from accessing the internet to incite non-compliance with vaccine mandates or lockdowns, Hannah Tamaki says he will appear on her Facebook page this morning to thank those who kept the vigil for him outside the prison.
